The Kops reservoir was converted into a pumped-storage hydroelectric power station. That means that the water used to create electricity is collected in pools further down. It is pumped back up to the Kops reservoir when cheap energy is available. So the same amount of water can be used again and again to produce the same amount of energy. The municipality of Galtür is the biggest landowner in the Silvretta region. The alpine pastures - the big alpine pastures Kleinvermund and Großvermund where the reservoirs are today – all belong to the municipality of Galtür. So we were important partners for the builders of the power stations. We bought this area back from the Swiss in 1899. The whole area up to Piz Buin or over to Groß Litzner or the Fluchthorn doesn't belong to the state. It belongs to the inhabitants of the municipality of Galtür. In that respect we are a bit - how should I say? - an exception in the Alps. We can decide ourselves what to do with our surroundings.
